ArtsForward provides arts and cultural experiences that
enrich the lives of our diverse community.
ArtsForward houses two art galleries: the Manawaka
Gallery, which displays the works of local artists and
exhibitions from across the province and the country on
a monthly rotating schedule, and the Community
Gallery which showcases the work of emerging artists.
Recent exhibits have included Mary Lowe’s Whimsical
Meanderings and will include Confluence by RAMP
and Forest Royalty by Kathleen Shellrude; as well as
exhibits from local fine artists Robert Garcia and
Meaghan Peters.
Our classes and workshops run year-round and include
classes for toddlers through seniors. We provide
education in the fields of visual, performing, musical
and literary arts, ranging from container gardening to
hip hop dance to prop design to watercolour to Yoga
Performances and events we organize and sponsor
include, community attended events for National Day
for Truth and Reconciliation, concerts, recitals, author readings
and book launches, Trivia Nights, beer and wine tastings, and our annual
Christmas Craft Sale. We operate a weekly Farmers
Market through the summer, and a monthly Karaoke night through the fall and winter.
ArtsForward provides a venue for numerous community
events outside of its own programming, ranging from
workshops to board meetings to wedding showers, and is
one of the only venues of its capacity in the area. Its
popularity stems not only from its convenient size and
location, but the fact that events can be held in or adjacent
to the art gallery which provides a unique and desirable
environment.
