Neepawa Walking Tour – Buildings of Interest
TransCanada Trail
The Trans Canada Trail meanders through Neepawa, connecting several beautiful, natural areas including the head waters of the Whitemud River. Along the trail you will find the Stoney Creek School No. 133 historic site, Neepawa’s Bird Sanctuary and the opportunity to see wildlife along the Whitemud River.
The Town of Neepawa, childhood home of Margaret Laurence, author of “The Stone Angel” amongst numerous other works of Canadian literature also offers a launching point for extended hiking to the north or south. The Trans Canada Trail then heads south into the RM of North Cypress-Langford. Following rural roads through some diverse scenery throughout the Hummerston Sandhills, where a variety of wildlife and vegetation can be seen. The Trail continues south to Emerson, MB on the United States’ border. Heading north from Neepawa, trail extends into the RM of Rosedale and then west following the former CN rail bed south of Riding Mountain National Park and on to Russell, MB.
